Two Suspects at Large after Burglary and Chase in Lauderdale Co.

Collinsville, Mississippi The search is still on for two men who are still at large near Collinsville Road and Highway 494 in Lauderdale County.

Lauderdale County Sheriff's officials say it all started about 6:00 p.m. Tuesday night when a resident on Masonic Lodge Road witnessed several people burglarizing a home and called authorities. Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says the suspects gave chase, and as one deputy left his vehicle to capture one of the suspects, another suspect jumped in the patrol car and took off. Calhoun says that man was quickly apprehended, and another was captured by a homeowner who found the suspect on his property.

"He took the subject into custody at gunpoint, and he was then arrested by deputies," said Calhoun. "Having neighbors and having the community helps. It helps us do our job, for them to be our eyes and ears, or in this case to actually be the individual to stop them, put them on the ground, and call us."

Calhoun says no one was injured, and the volunteer fire departments helped warn residents about the suspects in their area.

At news time, deputies were still searching for the two remaining suspects. They are described as black males, who abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot.
