Meridian, Miss. The Meridian Public School District named Ronald Turner its 2013 Parent of the Year.

"Mr. Turner is a dedicated parent and strong community leader that commits a lot of time and effort to the Meridian Public School District," said superintendent, Dr. Alvin Taylor. "I am pleased to honor him with this award."

The district recognized Turner out of ten nominees because of his service as a youth mentor, being the voice of Meridian High Wildcats basketball, being active in the MHS Parent and Teacher Organization, helping with special events at the school including serving as a chaperone at the prom.

The district says Turner also meets monthly with Taylor as a member of the “Step Up! Sign Up!” community group that works through various organizations to help increase tutoring, mentoring, and parental involvement within the district.

"Mr. Turner is truly a giver of his time, energy, and talents," said MHS principal, Victor Hubbard. "He is loyal to Meridian High, and he is very supportive of our athletic programs as well as other school events."
