Two Men Charged in Stabbing Incident

Lauderdale County, Miss. Two brothers are facing charges after a dispute that led to a stabbing on Tuesday night.

Lot number 25 at the Pat Harrison Waterway District Campground is where Sheriff Billy Sollie says Michael Sellars stabbed his brother Donnie Sellars in the forearm around 7:30 after the two got into a disagreement. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was treated.

"You know, based upon the limited amount of information we were able to get, the victim refused to talk to us, these brothers got into a verbal altercation which escalated to a physical confrontation and ultimately the stabbing in the forearm to separate the two," Sheriff Sollie explains.

Both men are being charged with domestic violence. The sheriff says Michael Sellars is being charged with aggravated assault and Donnie Sellars with simple assault. Sheriff Sollie tells Newscenter 11 the two brothers are living together while working at the Kemper County coal plant. He says this type of altercation can happen from time to time.

"When you have individuals, adults who are confined to a small area, the trailers they were living in, you're going to have altercations, you're going to have disputes," Sollie points out. "Unfortunately, brothers do get in fights with each other and this was a 43-year old and a 44-year old that got into a fight. And one decided to stop the fight by utilizing a knife into the forearm."

Sheriff Sollie tells us this case will not only be presented to the next available Lauderdale County Grand Jury, but also the Lauderdale County Justice Court.
