USM President in Town to Visit Alumni

Meridian, Miss. The University of Southern Mississippi President Dr. Rodney Bennett was in town Wednesday to visit with the local alumni chapter. During the luncheon he had the opportunity to speak with the alumni and hear their thoughts on how the school is doing. The alumni themselves exceed the expected numbers, showing just what a strong alumni base is present in the queen city.

Dr. Rodney Bennett says, "We have a good, good, good, strong alumni base here in this part of Mississippi and especially here in Meridian. And we are hosting them for lunch today in an effort to stay connected with our alumni and share with them some updates from the university."

Southern Miss is seeing some big changes in support from the Mississippi Legislature for construction projects on campus, even added radio coverage for USM games. All of the construction is a sign of just how much USM is changing and has changed in recent years.

Bennett says, "One is our Scianna Hall which will house our college of business which is scheduled to open early next spring. We have just broken ground on Asbury Hall which will house our College of Nursing and then our Century Park South which is a residential facility."

With all the changes being made to Southern Miss, Bennett says it may surprise both alumni and new students alike.

Bennett says, "Well I think what I would say to any young person looking for schools is do your homework; do your research. And take a closer look at the University of Southern Mississippi. You may just be surprised by what you find."
