The United Way of East Mississippi didn't quite meet its historic fundraising goal for this year. But the organization still raised a record amount in giving from the community itself.
At its 2013 Annual Meeting, United Way officials announced a final fundraising total of $925,000.
It fell below the ambitious $1 million goal it had set. But United Way officials say they still raised more during this year's campaign than has ever been raised in this community .
The more than $960,000 raised for 2012 included a $100,000 grant that was not part of the picture this time around.
"We'll reconvene soon after this meeting and come up with a plan for the upcoming year, 2013-2014," said board chairman John Anderson. "And hopefully we can have as robust a goal next year as we did this year and be even more successful."
Anderson Regional Hospital was presented with the Community Cup this year for raising $100,000.
Betty Lou Jones was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the organization.
