United Way Gets Fundraising Kick Start

Meridian, Miss. The United Way of East Mississippi has a head start on its next fundraising campaign.

The Young Professionals of Meridian presented the organization with a $3,000 check. The money came from profits generated from the group's beignet breakfast earlier this month.

Board chairman John Anderson says the agency is in the middle of strategic planning for next year's campaign, and this first official donation gives them momentum.

"It's a kickoff for us. We have the upcoming campaign for the next year, which is what we're meeting about today, doing our strategic planning for that campaign for next year," said Anderson. "And this presentation of this check is giving us a little bit of a head start, a little bit of a boost."

The Young Professionals of Meridian surpassed its goal by a thousand dollars.
