United Way Thanks Volunteers

Updated: Fri 12:01 AM, Nov 16, 2012

Five hundred local volunteers were thanked and honored Thursday by the United Way of East Mississippi.

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program and United Way organized an appreciation luncheon for the volunteers from twenty different organizations.

"It's really a time for us to celebrate volunteers in our community," said executive director Thad Quarles. "You know, volunteers started back before World War I and from then it has spread to community organizations other than just the military. So we're thankful and we give thanks today for the thousands of volunteers who really make it work for us here in east Mississippi."

The United Way of East Mississippi started as
The Community Chest of Meridian in 1940.
