Recipients of state scholarships could see their aid packages trimmed unless the Mississippi Legislature puts more money into financial aid.
That includes the more than 20,000 residents who receive yearly grants of $500 or $1,000.
Higher Education Commissioner Hank Bounds says officials have been using money collected from state student loan repayments to supplement scholarship funds, since financial aid was cut several years ago.
Bounds says that nest egg is being rapidly depleted.
College Board projections show that, under the amount recommended by Gov. Phil Bryant, the financial aid fund would be almost 14 percent short of its projected needs in the budget year
beginning July 1.
Without more money, Bounds tells lawmakers the
board would implement across-the-board cuts, lopping off an equal percentage of all awards.

kc, if I am not mistaken, I don't think tuition guarantee is paid by taxes. It is paid by businesses in the community who donate to the college specifically for tuition guarantee. What I don't understand, is if you are getting tuition guarantee, why do you need financial aid... I know books cost, but don't think you should get over and above the amount needed for books.
Mr A there are rules in place. Mr d you are so judge mental. You don't know why they didn't graduate like you did. Use your knowledge to help educate then. By the way did you use your grants for anything other than school
I could not agree more. I also think for the students getting grant money and actually staying in school, the grant should only cover tuition and books. They should not get any money back. They should also have to make passing grades and if they fail or decide to drop out, that should be the end of the grant. They should never qualify again.
