Urgent Need for Local Blood Donations

Locals are being asked to lend a helping hand by donating blood.

United Blood Services in Meridian is hosting its "Have a Heart" blood drive this weekend and next week. The organization says there is a need for o-positive blood and all negative types of blood. Officials say if you have been thinking about making a donation, now is the time to do so.

"We're in an emergency situation right now," according to Cheryl Reed with United Blood Services. "Our inventory is critically low, so we need to make sure that we have enough type negative blood types on our shelf."

You can donate from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. United Blood Services is located next to TJ Maxx on Bonita Lakes Circle. For more information, call 601-482-2482.
