The United Way of East Mississippi hosted the group Volunteer Mississippi Friday at the MSU Riley Center.
Volunteer Mississippi's executive director spoke to organization leaders who reach out and help those in need throughout their communities.
David Mallery said there are several resources that they may not have been on aware of, such as Senior Corps and AmeriCorps.
"Every year, somewhere between $20 million and $40 million in federal resources come to the state of Mississippi to support some of these national service programs," said Mallery. "And it's not always the easiest thing in the world for a small community organization to determine how to connect with those federal resources "
Volunteer Mississippi takes time each year to speak to community outreach organizations throughout the state.
