Mississippi leaders are inviting more people to join in on the political process.
Gov. Phil Bryant and Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann held a joint news conference Wednesday to talk about Voter Registration Month.
There are approximately 360,000 Mississippians over 18 who aren't registered to vote. That's 15 percent of those who are eligible.
"In most states, the average around the country, I think, is around 75 percent or so," said Hosemann. "So we're a little bit ahead in Mississippi on registration. That doesn't mean that we're not concerned. We have a lot of people who are moving to Mississippi. They stay here to work here and we want them to vote and register to vote."
The next election is the statewide primary for U.S. Congress June 3. The registration deadline for that election is May 3.
