WIN Job Fair Attracts Large Crowd

Meridian, Miss. Meridian's WIN Job Center was packed Monday morning for the beginning of their five day seasonal job fair. Local employers such as FedEX, UPS, Maurice's, and Hotel and Restaurant Management were meeting with applicants, but as WIN Job Center Branch Director Nellie Satcher says, they expect close to one thousand job seekers to come through their doors this week.

"It is a job fair where we're not only hiring seasonal workers, but permanent workers as well, so the employers are really getting a good shot at meeting a lot of applicants here this week."

As soon as you walk through the front doors, you'll be greeted by a WIN Job Center employee who will walk you through the entire process, and ensure that you get to meet with the employers of your choice."

"At that time you can just select which one you would want to see, or who you would want to be interviewed by or with because they are taking applications and hiring on the spot."

Leona Nealy with Maurice's in Meridian Crossroads says that they were at the job fair last year, and it was a success, so they're back this year looking for more help.

"We were invited to come over, and we are looking for holiday help, and we're always accepting applications, so we just thought this was a smart move to get a jump start on the holiday."

Getting a large number of applicants jobs last year led to the continuation of the fair this year, and Satcher says she hopes this year will be even bigger and better.

"We did get over 120+ that were employed through the different employers. We're really looking forward to that amount and even more this year.

The fair runs through Friday from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM.
