Walk Raises Money for Make-A-Wish

The 10th Annual Meridian Walk for Wishes is Saturday in downtown Meridian.

The 5K walk for charity starts at 9 a.m. at the Doughboy Monument.

The yearly fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation hopes to reach a goal of $30,000.

With support from ordinary people and businesses, Make-A-Wish Mississippi was able to grant 113 wishes in 2012.

This year, Sam's Club is sponsoring the Meridian walk.

"We got involved with Make-A-Wish, such a great organization, last year," said Sam's Club general manager, Jason Collie. "We had a chance first-hand to see what make-a-wish does with granting children wishes. We had a child that her wish was to come to Sam's Club for a shopping spree. So we got to get involved with that and ever since then we've wanted to do more for Make-A-Wish and the children in this area."

A donation of any amount will allow you to participate in the walk, which also raises awareness.

Registration is at 8:30 a.m. at the Doughboy Monument at 23rd Avenue and 7th Street. The walk starts at 9:00.
