Mississippi Inmate Files Another Post-Conviction Appeal

Jackson, Miss.

Alan Dale Walker is back before the Mississippi Supreme Court seeking a new trial or the vacating of his death sentence.

Walker has lost one post-conviction round before the Mississippi court. A federal court rejected his claims in 2012.

Walker was sentenced to death in Harrison County for the 1990 rape and murder of 19-year-old Konya Edwards of Long Beach.

The case is among dozens before the Mississippi court in its July-August term. Oral arguments are not scheduled.

In a post-conviction petition, an inmate argues he has new evidence, or a possible constitutional issue, that could persuade a court to order a new trial.

Walker's death sentence was upheld by the Mississippi Supreme Court in 1995.
