Lauderdale County, Miss. Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie says 49-year-old Kenneth Wallace of Collinsville has been charged with Internet luring, the sexual pursuit of a child he knows or believes to be under the age of 15.
Wallace was arrested July 19. Investigators say he was taken in after a week-long investigation.
Wallace was arrested at Okatibbee Lake, where authorities say he believed he was meeting a teenage girl. Instead, he met sheriff's deputies.
Sollie says the parents of the female alerted investigators to what was happening and they moved quickly to action.
"We have families that are doing the right things in our community and they're keeping contact with their children," said Sollie. "It was brought to our attention by the parents of this young person of the possible contact that was going to occur this past Friday."
Sollie says Wallace had been communicating through the Internet with the local girl, but for the last week, when he thought he was talking to the girl, he was actually talking to sheriff's deputies. They set up the meeting. Wallace apparently walked right into it.
Wallace is charged with two counts. His bond was set at $25,000.
If Wallace is convicted, he could potentially face up to 40 years in prison, thousands of dollars in fines and have to register as a sex offender. The case will be presented to the Lauderdale County grand jury.
