State Auditor Stacey Pickering announced in a news release that Warren County Circuit Clerk Shelly Palmertree has been indicted on two felony counts of embezzlement by a Warren County grand jury.
According to the auditor, Palmertree surrendered to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and special agents of his office Wednesday morning where she was arrested and booked. Palmertree posted a $5,000.00 bond and was released.
Pickering says his office served a civil demand in the amount of $661,751.75 to Palmertree Mar. 5.
Officials say the amount of $402,033.00 was attributed to Palmertree exceeding the fee cap, and $163,700.00 was attributed to her making payments to relatives within the first degree of kinship.
Prosecution of this case is being handled by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
