Wayne County Investigates Death

An arrest was made late Tuesday in the death of Charles Giles.

A man was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head Tuesday morning near the Wayne-Clarke county line.

Wayne County Sheriff Darryl Woodson said late Tuesday that authorities made an arrest in connection with the murder of 24-year old Charles Giles.

24-year old Grangie T. Cooper was taken into custody about 7:15 p.m. at a home in the Saint John community. Officials said Cooper was known to have addresses in Meridian, Quitman and Waynesboro.

Newscenter 11 spoke with family members who said Giles disappeared about 8 p.m. Monday.

His body was found Tuesday about 7 a.m. His burned car was found a few miles away.

Wayne County public relations person, Mamie Turner, said central dispatch received a call about a white male being discovered on Shubuta Eucutta Road, off of Clarke County Road 212.

The death is the sixth in Wayne County in 2013.
