The University of West Alabama athletic department confirmed that football player Anthony Robinson was killed in a car accident late Sunday afternoon in Marengo County, Alabama.

Robinson's high school coach, Andro Williams, said the 19-year-old freshman defensive back and his 12-year-old cousin died in a two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon on U.S. Highway 43 near his hometown of Linden, Ala.

Williams said Monday the vehicle Robinson was driving collided with an 18-wheeler.

Williams said Robinson started four years at quarterback and defensive back. He says counselors and ministers spoke to the Linden High School players Monday.

Williams says Robinson "was just a kid that enjoyed living life."

West Alabama coach Will Hall says Robinson "was a tremendous young man."

Robinson was a three-time All-State quarterback at Linden High School before signing with UWA last spring. He was set to play defensive back for the Tigers.
