Local forestry officials say weather conditions are ripe for wildfires. They also say more people are in the woods right now, as the temperatures drop and hunting seasons begin, increases the chances for fires.
"A lot of times we've had fires with mufflers from tractors in tall grass, hot chainsaws, spark arresters not working properly on four-wheelers," said Greg Chatham of the Mississippi Forestry Commission. "Any kind of power equipment people use in the woods, they just need to be very careful this time of the year."
Things could get better soon, since there is a chance of rain in the forecast this weekend.
