Wintry Mix Possible Monday Evening

So a complex weather set-up is currently taking place over Mississippi. First, a FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY is in effect until 9pm for Winston and Leake Counties. Temperatures across Mississippi are ranging from near 40 near Waynesboro and 33 in Louisville as of 4pm. Along Highway 25, temperatures are close enough to freezing that any rain that falls could freeze on contact to cars, overpasses, and bridges. South of this line, it is cold enough aloft for a few flakes to make it to the ground. South of about Highway 18, it is a little too warm to see much in the way of flakes.

Snowfall will not accumulate at all, but Leake and Winston counties could see up to a tenth of an inch of ice by 9pm, making travel very dangerous. If you plan on traveling north of the viewing area towards the Golden Triangle or west towards Jackson, travel is not advised.

After about 9pm, temperatures will start increasing, which will put an end to our wintry threat and turn us all over to complete rain. Rain will continue Tuesday before we get a break late Wednesday into Thursday where our final round of precipitation will arrive Thursday afternoon. It is possible, though not likely at this point, that snow may mix in again Thursday. For now, will not mention it outside of this discussion until models get into better agreement and I have more confidence it is even possible.
