Kemper County, Miss. A two-vehicle collision Friday morning claimed the life of an employee of the Mississippi Power lignite coal plant.
The name of the person who died was not immediately released.
Cpl. Andy West of the Mississippi Highway Patrol says all people involved worked at the coal plant.
The crash happened about 5:30 a.m. on Highway 493, 3-tenths of a mile south of Bethel Church Road, near the Kemper-Lauderdale county line.
West says the vehicles involved, a Ford Mustang and Toyota 4Runner, were both traveling north in a line of traffic.
The Mustang, occupied only by the driver, attempted to pass and somehow the two vehicles collided, left the road, and struck separate trees. There were a total of five people in the 4Runner.
The woman who died was seated in the front passenger seat of the 4Runner. She was taken to Stennis Hospital in DeKalb as was the driver of the Mustang. All the other injured were transported to Meridian hospitals.
West says seat belts were in use in both vehicles. The accident remains under investigation.
