A former University of Southern Mississippi faculty member has brought numerous civil claims against the university, asking for reinstatement and unspecified actual and compensatory damages in a lawsuit removed to U.S. District Court.

The Hattiesburg American reported Bonnie Gerald also lists former university President Martha Saunders, former Provost Robert Lyman, and faculty members Kathy Yadrick and Mike Forster in her lawsuit.

The suit alleges violation of federal law prohibiting discrimination against the disabled and injured, several tort claims and express contract violation among others.

The complaint states that Gerald was "enticed" to leave her tenured position at Louisiana Tech in 2007 for an assistant professor position in the USM Department of Nutrition and Food Systems.

University Counsel Jon Mark Weathers declined to comment on the pending litigation.
