An honor flight from Mississippi left Gulfport early Tuesday to travel to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Memorial.
World War II veteran Nevella Massey, 94, from Meridian, is part of the group of more than 80 Mississippians making that trip. She is a member of VFW Post 79.
According to the most recent statistics, about 800 World War II veterans are dying each day.
Honor flights are making sure our remaining WWII veterans are able to visit the memorial, which salutes the service and patriotism of our greatest generation.
Other honor flights Tuesday originated in St. Louis, Fort Worth, Illinois, and Iowa.
