State Rep. Charles Young, Jr., hosted a Community Enlightenment Forum at MSU Meridian.
Young said representatives of the National Guard and its ChalleNGe Academy were invited to speak.
He says the visit is timely because of the challenges young people face today.
The Mississippi ChalleNGe Academy at Camp Shelby is a boot camp for troubled youths, ages 16 to 18.
"We want to attempt to bring information to the people of the community so that we can provide educated options for some of the problems that we're currently experiencing," said Young.
Young said the ChalleNGe Academy combines discipline and direction for young people, in addition to stressing education.
