Young Talks Charter Schools

Lawmakers in Jackson continue to debate the issue of charter schools in Mississippi.

House District 82 Representative Charles Young, Jr. tells Newscenter 11 that charter school legislation passed in both the House and Senate. He says the House and Senate versions vary slightly, but that Lt. Governor Tate Reeves will play a big part in the future of the legislation, based on his decision concerning the base element of the charter school restriction. Young says it's important that a deal be reached soon.

"The longer it stays out, the more it loses its taste," Representative Young says. "So, it's been here for a few years now and it's definitely not as appealing as it once was."

Representative Young says a majority of the teachers and administrators he has spoken to in our area oppose charter school legislation.
