Meridian, Miss. Detectives with the Meridian Police Department Criminal Investigations Division have arrested 38-year old Sean Derwin Scott of Inglewood, California last Thursday and charged him with murder.
Scott is being charged in connection with the murder of 28-year old Alex Sims of Meridian. The murder occurred in the 900 block of 64th Ave. on July 14th of 2012.
The 28-year old Sims was initially reported as a missing person by family members back on July 16th, 2012. The case was upgraded to murder when his body was later found in a river in Clay County, Mississippi. Investigators believe Scott fled to California to avoid prosecution. He was recently taken into custody in Los Angeles by authorities and held pending extradition. Scott was extradited back to Mississippi and formally served with the murder warrant by Meridian detectives.
Scott's bond has been set at $300,000 on the murder charge. Scott is now behind bars in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility awaiting further legal action. This case is expected to be heard by the next available grand jury.
