The Mississippi House voted Tuesday to override Governor Haley Barbour's veto of a bill that limits the use of eminent domain.
The bill prevents the government from taking land for private projects. Barbour had said eminent domain was needed to lure projects such as the Nissan vehicle plant in Canton and the Toyota plant in North Mississippi.
Under the bill, government can still take private land through eminent domain for public use, such as road projects.
The override effort now moves to the Senate.
