Meridian, Miss. Students from Lamar High School's mock trial team were practicing Thursday night for a regional competition Saturday in Jackson.
They prepared for the competition with the help of some local attorneys in the Meridian Police Department courtroom. Stephen Wilson, Will Parker, Kathryn McNair, and Amanda Glover Evans have helped the students refine their technique for the competition. Mock trial has given the students lots of skills they will use as they head into their careers.
"Mock trial has helped me communicate my ideas, and speak clearly and have more confidence as an all-around person," said Hunter Dungan, a senior member of the the Lamar mock trial team.
"We have actually had some of our students who have gone on to become attorneys because of this experience of mock trial. Every year we see our children grow," said Kimber Woelfel, a co-advisor of Lamar's mock trial team.
Phyllis Skipper also advises the students. The competition is sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division of the Mississippi Bar.
