Waynesboro, Mississippi A Clarke County family farm is up for a national environmental award.
The Hilton Davis farm near Waynesboro is one of two semi-finalists in the Southeast region of the United States. The other finalist is a family farm in Kentucky. The award, from the U.S. Poultry and Egg Asociation, is presented to superior family farmers in six regions of the country. Judges made a site visit today to look over over the Davis operation. John Pearson, of the Georgia Tech Research Institute says he was impressed. "We're really interested in, is it a quality poultry operation? Because at the end of the day, that's really what it's about. But the environmental aspects, and their stewardship of the property, and how well it reflects on the poultry industry, is a very important component of what we're looking for. "
If the Davis farm wins, the Davis family will receive $1,0000.00, a trophy, and all expenses paid to accept the award in Atlanta, January 28th.
