Meridian, Miss. Meridian Police say they are investigating a group of people promising local citizens settlement money from the BP oil spill.
Police say they've received numerous calls about solicitors on Meridian's 8th and North Hills Streets collecting personal information from citizens, including their social security numbers, in return for what they say will be a large payout.
Assistant Chief James Sharpe says officers are collecting evidence and working with state and federal agencies in the investigation.
