Meridian, Miss. Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church hosted a Thanksgiving meal as part of its community ministry.
The church has been serving this meal near Thanksgiving for over forty years. Any person who wanted a meal to eat could come out and get some food from the church. Mt. Zion will also be serving lunch at noon Tuesday, and supper will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Officials with the church talked about why they serve this meal.
"We do it just to give back to the community. It's a community-based church, so we do that, so everyone can come out and feel loved, to fellowship with our church. We are in this community, and we are here to serve and to help," said Latricia Bradley, a youth director at the church.
Tuesday's lunch meal includes chicken spaghetti and red beans and rice. Baked chicken will be served for supper.
