A longtime former Meridian city councilman was honored Saturday with plenty of laughter and smiles.
A special "Roast and Toast" was held in honor of former Ward 4 Councilman Jesse Palmer, Sr., at the Boys and Girls Club in Meridian. Palmer served on the council for 24 years until earlier this year, when he lost in the democratic primary to Kim Houston. The public was invited to attend.
"This is great," former Councilman Palmer, Sr., said. "This is so exciting, and I didn't know this many people would come and show up, and so its just mind-blogging to me."
"He's been a huge contribution to the City Council," City Council President George Thomas said. "He's dedicated to the people in his ward. He looks out for the people, always concerned about the young people. He's made a major contribution to the city."
Palmer plans on assisting young people that need help in math and algebra. He will also serve on the Transportation Board for the City.
