Lake, Miss. Two Scott County schools faced each other in basketball Friday night.
Scott Central and Lake took to the court in the schools' first basketball games since the potential government takeover was announced. Scott Central won last year's 2A state girls championship. The state's all-time leading scorer, Victoria Vivians, plays on the squad. All Scott County teams could miss out on playing in the playoffs, something Scott Central girls basketball coach Chad Harrison says has affected everybody.
"The system was not designed for what's happening right now," said Scott Central girls basketball coach Chad Harrison. "I mean when we got here tonight and played, I wondered how the atmosphere was going to be, and it was dead. There was nobody cheering, everyone was just sitting here. It was almost like being at a funeral. I think it took about 30 minutes to get involved and kind of get into it. And it's wearing on the kids."
The Scott Central girls won 63-47 over Lake, while the Scott Central boys won 51-48 over Lake.
