Lauderdale County, Miss. The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department is looking for a suspect who attempted to rob a Shell Station early Monday morning. The station located off the I 20/59 corridor in Russell was the scene of that armed robbery, when a black male with a baseball cap and a bandana walked into the store about 2 AM.
"He came into the store and the clerk confronted him about the bandana," said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun of the LCSD. "He indicated he was riding a motorcycle and wouldn't take the bandana off. He then asked for a pack of cigarettes, as she began to ring up the cigarettes, the suspect handed her some money for the cigarettes. The cashier then opened the drawer and the suspect pulled out a gun and announced he was going to rob the store."
Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says that the cashier then slammed the drawer shut and the man began to get confrontational with her.
"He actually leaned over the counter and attempted to shoot her," said Calhoun. "The gun went off, but did not fire. The suspect then worked with the gun to get it back into a firing sequence and then shot twice at her while she was laying on the floor."
Although two shots were fired at the cashier, no bullets hit her. Calhoun then says the man ran from the store where he got into a car and not the motorcycle he mentioned to the cashier.
"A four door newer model gray car," said Calhoun. "The car has damage on the passenger side rear and on the front bumper of the passenger's side."
