Softball players in Meridian laced up today for a good cause.
A softball tournament at Sammie Davidson park will benefit a local family trying to adopt a child. J.D. and Jamie Ainsworth are in the process of adopting a child from the Philippines. Teams played for men's softball, co-ed softball, and a homerun derby. All of the money raised today goes to benefit the Ainsworth family during this adoption.
"I know it's a lot of financial burden on them. It's a long process," event organizer Danny Todd. "They've got certain stages they've got to meet and they go on to the next stage, so on and so forth. I think they're getting to the end of it now and hopefully, before too long, they'll have their little blessing."
A few of the Newscenter 11 crew were out on the field, including Brian Hutton, Jr., Austin Culpepper and Thomas Burton.
