More than 50 people gathered at Bonita Lakes Saturday morning to raise money for March of Dimes.
The Delta Nu Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta sorority and their brothers in the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity teamed up to sponsor the event. The president of this sorority's chapter says usually the Mississippi chapter sponsors a walk for March of Dimes. But since it didn't this year, the Delta Nu Zeta chapter decided to step in and bring the walk to Meridian.
"We donate money, our gifts to parents that are in need once they have in child. That's one thing," Delta Nu Zeta chapter's president Jaclyn Buford says. "Nationally, we donate to raise awareness for prenatal care for parents. Prematurity, if a child is born at a low birth rate, how to work with those particular kids. We sponsor kids and we just give as much as we can."
Buford says the walk had a great turnout, and they're thankful for all the support from the community.
