Newton County Emergency Management officials were deep in the woods Thursday doing search and rescue training.
The event was supervised by state emergency management officers, and the search and rescue techniques practiced can go a long way in working out any possible issues with real life operations in the county.
"It's a training based exercise to find any challenges or flaws that you may overlook in a real event," says Todd Demuth with MEMA, "so you don't have to have that happen when a real event occurs."
Demuth says Newton County officials are using up to date equipment and techniques when it comes to search and rescue.
