Walk to End Alzheimer's Raising Money, Awareness

Planning is already underway for Meridian's Annual Walk to End Alzheimer's.

An informational meeting was held for assisted living facilities, caregivers and families who want to help raise money for the Mississippi chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

Teams may form and compete to see which group raises the most money.

Officials say the walk to end Alzheimer's also raises awareness of a growing health problem.

"Alzheimer's disease is an escalating epidemic. It's affecting more and more people across the country and more and more people, obviously, across the state of Mississippi," said Patty Dunn, executive director of the Mississippi chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. "Our role is to provide programs, services, education, training, information to help these people who have been affected by Alzheimer's disease in their journey."

Meridian's Walk to End Alzheimer's is set for Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at Bonita Lakes Park.

Anyone needing more information may contact Dunn at 601-987-0020, or visit www.alz.org/ms.
