Attempted Robbery Inside Bonita Wal-Mart

There were some tense moments inside the Bonita Wal-Mart Supercenter early Tuesday morning.

Meridian police tell Newscenter 11 that sometime after 1 a.m., a man walked into the store, walked up to a cashier, reached over and grabbed the cash out of the drawer. Authorities say the suspect then proceeded to then leave the store, but was caught by employees. Investigators say employees managed to subdue the man until police arrived and took him into custody. That suspect is being charged with a misdemeanor.

Officer Mike Vick tells us it was thanks to the employees and customers being situationally aware that led to this arrest.

"Well in this case, there was no weapon displayed," Vick points out. "There was no threat of violence, none of that. It was just a snatch and grab, run. "So in that case, people intervened, caught him and held him until we got there. Had there been a weapon involved, the threat of a weapon involved, then what you do is stay out of the way."

Meridian police say they are not releasing the name of the suspect. Meanwhile, Newscenter 11 did call a manager at the Bonita Wal-Mart Supercenter who told us he was not working at the time of the incident and that he would not be commenting.
