Smoking Ban Discussion

Posted: 12:42 PM Jun 23, 2012
Reporter: The Associated Press

The Forest Board of Aldermen expects to vote on an anti-smoking ordinance in July.

The proposal being drafted would bar smoking in public places.
The city held a public meeting on the proposal earlier this month.

Mayor Nancy Chambers tells the Scott County Times
that she has not receive any negative calls about the proposed ordinance.

The board of aldermen meets July 3. If they approve the
ordinance then, it would take effect in about 30 days.

The city is using as a basis for its ordinance a proposal from
the Mississippi Tobacco-Free Coalition. The organization has
suggested a smoke-free ordinance to prohibit smoking in all indoor
places and within 15-20 feet of entrances to indoor public places
including workplaces, public buildings, offices, restaurants and
bars.
