Annexed Residents Voice Concerns

Annexed residents didn't hold back during Tuesday night's town hall meeting.

The main concerns were centered around water, sewage, and fire services. One resident said he thinks the whole annexation could have been planned out better.

"Well, a lot of the city council members were on the council at the time of the annexation was going on," Ricky Follin says. "There should have been, there wasn't, a long term plan. Whether it be short term or long term on how these services were going to be provided."

City officials say easier said than done though, as the sagging economy has made it difficult to do much of anything in the past 3 years. Mayor Cheri Barry says on top of that, the annexation took place before she was elected. However, a new fire station is expected to be ready on or around February 13th.

"And the city is responsible for delivering services to those individuals," Barry says. "Unfortunately, a plan was not put into place at that time to deliver water and sewage and fire and police protection. But since I've been in office, we've been progressively looking at different plans we can put into place."

Barry says anyone who was unable to attend Tuesday night's meeting can call or stop by her office anytime.
