Meridian Police Investigating Multiple Crimes

Meridian Police say they are investigating a shooting and aggravated assault, an attempted kidnapping, and an armed robbery that all took place on Saturday.

Police say the shooting and aggravated assault happened around 11:00 a.m. in the 5200 block of 5th Street. Authorities say a 17-year old male was found with a gunshot wound to the upper leg. The victim told police that a small white car drove by and fired shots in his direction. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and later released.

Investigators say they also responded to an armed robbery call at 9:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Highway 19 North. A 79-year old female told police she was approached in the parking lot of a convenience store by a young black male who displayed a handgun and robbed her of her purse before fleeing on foot.

Meridian Police also say someone attempted to kidnap a 14-year old female in the 1500 block of 22nd Avenue Heights around 1:00 a.m. Authorities say according to the victim, a white male in a Ford truck approached her near the street and grabbed her in an attempt to kidnap her. The victim was able to escape the suspect and run away from him.
