Extra Deputies in Place for Thanksgiving Travel

Posted: 9:55 PM Nov 17, 2012

Local law enforcement will have extra officers on the roads during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department says it's important for all drivers and passengers to wear their seat belts, to obey all traffic laws, and to not drink and drive. Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says deputies will be strictly enforcing these laws and will not hesitate to pull drivers over.

"It'll be a Thanksgiving that they probably won't be thankful for," he says. "We want to make sure our families and our community have a time where they can think about the things. And have a good time with their families and not be concerned with the fact that they've been in a motor vehicle crash, been seriously injured or a death in the family."

Last weekend alone, the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department reported 14 DUI's throughout the county.
