Free Foreclosure Legal Clinics Set

Posted: 10:21 AM Nov 26, 2012
Reporter: The Associated Press

The Mississippi attorney general's office is sponsoring several free legal clinics to help people avoid home foreclosures.

Clinics are set for Dec. 4 in Hernando and Tupelo, Dec. 5 in Columbus and Meridian, Dec. 10 in Jackson and Hattiesburg and Dec. 11 in Gautier and Hancock County.

The Mississippi Foreclosure Prevention Consortium
meeting in Meridian will be at East Mississippi Electric Power Association Auditorium, 2128 Highway 39 Dec. 5 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

For more assistance, call 1-866-530-9572.

The clinics will provide information about refinancing and loan modification. People seeking help should bring mortgage documents, including notices from their lenders.

Earlier this year, Attorney General Jim Hood created the Mississippi Foreclosure Prevention Consortium to help homeowners who've had problems paying their mortgages.

The consortium was created through funding from a national settlement with the five largest mortgage providers.

Hood says there's a Jan. 18 deadline for people to apply for payment under the national settlement.
