NAS Winging Ceremony

Posted: 4:40 PM Mar 8, 2013

Seven new aviators at Naval Air Station Meridian got their wings of gold Friday.

The ceremony marks the transition from trainer to full-fledged aviator through nearly two years of specialized training.

"To be honest the wings mean everything in the world," said aviator Robert Grant. "I've spent my whole life working learning to be a pilot. And I was excited when I got my commission, did primary flight training, did intermediate then got advanced. Getting the wings is really what I've been working towards for years "

Capt. William Sheehan, the commander of Training Wing 1, was the guest speaker.
