Jackson County supervisors have reaffirmed their support of the Rail Authority of East Mississippi and its proposal to construct a rail connection from Waynesboro to Lucedale, providing continuous service from Meridian to the Port of Pascagoula.
Representatives who support the rail corridor this week outlined their plan to run new track from Waynesboro to Lucedale, linking lines that already run from Waynesboro north to Meridian and from Lucedale south to Pascagoula.
Sean Dunlap told county leaders the group wants to "spur industrial development as a region."
He said Jackson, George, Greene, Wayne, Clarke and Lauderdale counties contribute to the authority, some through funding and some through moral support only.
