Each Relay for Life begins with a program honoring survivors of cancer and as American Cancer Society officials will tell you, you are a survivor from the moment you are diagnosed. Newscenter 11 spoke with Cherie Bolden, who shared her story with us.
"I fought the fight of cancer through prayer, through our awesome doctors at Anderson, and just with the help of the Lord and my church family which is out here," Bolden says. "They have been awesome they have been supportive and just the greatest we have come together and even in the darkest moments they have always been there. Those words, when a doctor says you have cancer, it's like your whole world flashes in front of you. Seeing your grandchildren it's like a flash and everything is a daze, but when you stop and think about that, and you think about that you have the Lord on your side, everything is possible."
$333,000 was raised during this year's Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society. Officials say they will be announcing additional funds raised at a later time.
