Household Hazardous Waste Day Saturday

The city of Meridian will again give an opportunity to residents to safely dispose of household hazardous waste Saturday.

Residents may bring their items to the Public Works facility off 29th Avenue Apr. 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., or to the parking lot of the Family Bowl Lanes on North Hills Street from 8 a.m to 1 p.m.

The hazardous waste pick-up is done twice a year to collect items from households that cannot go into landfills.

"If it goes out to the sidewalk, Southern Waste knows which things they're not supposed to pick up and what have you, and they're left there," said Odell Hopkins, contracts compliance officer for the city of Meridian. "Some things can't go in recycling, it's left there, and so we give them a place and an opportunity to get rid of them legitimately and legally."

Hazardous Waste Day is only for residents of the city of Meridian.
