Tanner Farms a Gem for Mississippi

Deep in northern Kemper County, in the Walhalak community, lies one of the most beautiful antebellum homes and landscapes in the country.

And this gem is now operating again as a cattle ranch, thanks to Gary and Lorrie Tanner.

"Our guys that work here, we have about 5, 6 guys that work regular every day. And they work horseback," said Gary Tanner. "This place is kind of spread out. It's hard to gather cattle without the use of horses. And they're up at daylight and a lot of days they don't get home till dark. We use the horses just like in the old days, you know."

The hard work, time, and money to restore this home was well worth it. The working ranch lies on several thousand acres and can be seen from Highway 45, near the Noxubee County line.

The Tanners wanted to bring back the beauty of the 'Deep South', and they think with Tanner Farms, they've done just that.
