Alabama State Troopers Working Overtime

Posted: 12:14 PM Jul 3, 2012
Reporter: The Associated Press

Alabama state troopers will be working overtime to try to keep the highways safe during the Fourth of July travel period.

State Public Safety Director Hugh McCall says all available troopers will be on the roads from early Wednesday morning through Sunday night. He says they will conduct license and sobriety checkpoints, saturate some areas, and operate speed detection devices from stationary points. McCall said they will focus on violations that cause the most crashes, including speeding, unsafe lane changes, following too closely and failing to yield the right of way. They will also work to apprehend drivers impaired by alcohol and drugs.

McCall said overtime grants will help pay for the extra enforcement.
